LIBRARY
ADMINISTRATOR - DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· * Good written and verbal
communication skills in English.
· * Computer literate.
DUTIES:
1.
Prepare/ approve budgets and process the ordering of books.
2.
Supervise Library Staff and Student Librarians.
3.
Coordinate Library Staff.
4.
Cataloguing of books and journals.
5.
Perform circulation functions.
6.
Prepare subscriptions for journals and magazines.
7.
Order the Library supplies.
8.
Keep in touch with development in Librarianship and School Libraries and ensure
the adoption and
introduction
of whatever is appropriate.
9.
Co-operate with Heads of Departments & Teachers in providing the Library
with whatever materials are
needed
to ensure effective teaching and learning.
10.
Maintain appropriate contacts with various persons / bodies / institutions to
ensure the flow of materials
in
the Library.
11.
Cultivate the understanding and co-operation of parents.
12.
Assist Students with their projects preparing materials in co-operation with
the teacher(s) concerned.
13.
Familiarise with Classter so that she/he will be able to help other users to use it
efficiently.
14.
Assist with library material displays.
15.
Inform the Vice Principal of disciplinary problems with students or teachers.
16.
Note down any requests for specific items by users.
17.
Supervise the preparation and publication of “The GCS Library Newsletter”.
18.
Organise training sessions and other workshops for Library users.
19.
Undertake other related duties as assigned by the Vice-Principal and/or the
Principal.
ADDITIONAL
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.
Welcome users who come to the Library for the first time. Show them around and
explain how the GCS
Library
system works. Inform them of the facilities which are available to them.
2.
Place books back on the shelves.
3.
Let users know about the GCS Library classter Guide and if they are still
facing difficulties, help them use
it
effectively.
4.
If users face problems in their Library searches, the Staff must be able and
willing to help them find what
they
are looking for.
5.
Be sure to always check that students do not bring food into the Library and
that they maintain their
working
area clean and proper. Only bottled water is permitted.
6.
Supervise students in the Library. Make sure that students are silent and show
respect to other users of the Library. We make no exceptions for students or
even teachers.

GUIDELINES:
A
Library administrator must:
-
Behave professionally. Never be late. Non-attendance will not be tolerated
during set working
hours.
- Be
inquisitive. He/She can ask all the questions he/she wants so that he/she can
become familiar
with
the collection and the Library’s system and policies.
- Be
polite and friendly so that users feel comfortable to come to him/her for help.
- Be
patient with users.
-
Offer to do more than he/she is asked or expected to do.
- Be
sure to know the Library’s policies, follow the rules and make users follow
them also.
