King Abdulaziz Foundation Riyadh, Saudi Arabia is looking for specialists in Library and information Science to participate in the project of Encyclopedia of Hajj and the Two Holy Mosques.
Introduction of the Project Database:
King Abdulaziz Foundation has taken the initiative to start on a comprehensive Encyclopedia of Hajj and the Two Holy Mosques. Beside the establishment of a print encyclopedia Foundation is working on to develop an online Database for Hajj and the Two Holy Mosques. The Database contains books, manuscripts, documents, travelers writings and modern and traditional literature written on Hajj in all Muslims countries and in various languages, the renewable statistics, researches and data available from the newspaper, relevant publications and academic periodicals. These are subsumed under “Bibliography”. The database also includes the names and locations of the Hajj Sites, the movement of pilgrims, visitors and umra performers as well as the terminology of Hajj and its sites and the Hajj data released by official and private institutions. Moreover, the database covers events that occurred during the past Hajj seasons. Maps, figures, illustrations, pictures and films are also a major component of the database.
Objectives of the Database:
The main objectives of the Database are to combine all format of information related to Hajj and the Two Holy Mosques with a view to tracing their past and development throughout history addressing all their cultural and civilization aspects in a sound and academic methodology.
The database aims to:
1. Initiating a reliable database on Hajj and the Two Holy Mosques that can be used as a source for academic and general research.
2. Collecting Data and documents on pilgrims from all Muslim & non-muslims countries and areas.
3. The target type of information will be the bibliographies, places, terminology, Hajj data, Events, figures and maps, and pictures & films.
4. The Database contains all published and non-published information resources from all countries in all languages and formats.
The establishment of an information database includes all that is written and published on the Hajj and the Two Holy Mosques in all languages.
Job Description:
King Abdulaziz Foundation is looking for 2-4 part time contractors in every country from all around the world to collaborate with our Project as External coordinators. These external coordinators will coordinate with us in collecting and gathering information in all languages related to Hajj, Makkah & Madina in any information media e.g. like Pictures, electronic documents, audio, video, multimedia, and send it to KAF. This information may be as bibliographies, places, terminology, Hajj data, Events, figures and maps, and pictures & films.
Qualification and Skills
Minimum Qualification for this post is Degree in Library and Information Science having enough experience in LIS profession. Experience in dealing with multi lingual is preferable requirement.
The Essential Skills required are: Cataloging, Expertise on MARC21, Information Automation System, Searching Databases.
